There are horses we ride.
And then there are the ones we'll remember for the rest of our lives.
I create custom paintings of horses and the people who love them—portraits that capture not only how they look, but something much harder to photograph: the relationship between them.
Capturing a true likeness is always my highest priority.
I study the photographs you send, (often quite a few of them) to understand both horse and rider. I can bring together her best expression from one photograph, his from another, and the little details that make each of them unmistakably themselves.
The finished painting doesn't have to recreate a photograph. It can create the portrait you wish you'd captured.
And you'll see and approve your portrait before I finish it. Nothing moves forward until you look at it and say, “That's them.”
In London, while my equestrian paintings were displayed with Espayo at the Longines Global Champions Tour, I found myself watching the riders almost as much as the horses.
The trust. The communication. The partnership between them.
That relationship has become one of my favorite things to paint.
