1. About the Project

50 Girls. 50 Horses. is a special portrait project created by artist Kathy Morley celebrating equestrian girls, the horses they love, and the connection between them.

Participation is limited to 50 selected girls and their horses.

If the participant is under 18, all applications, payments, approvals, and permissions must be completed by a parent or legal guardian.

2. Participation Fee & What’s Included

There is no fee to apply. 

If your daughter is selected for the project and you choose to participate, the participation fee is $495.

Participation includes:

•  A private consultation and guidance in selecting photographs
• A custom portrait created from your photographs
• A digital proof and opportunity to refine the likeness before the painting is completed
• One finished 8×10 portrait
• A feature in the 50 Girls. 50 Horses.  magazine
• One copy of the finished magazine
• A private Zoom portrait reveal

There is no required additional purchase.

At the portrait reveal, you may choose to receive the included 8×10 portrait or apply the full $495 participation fee as a credit toward the purchase of a larger portrait.

3. Portrait Creation & Approval

Portraits are created using photographs provided by the participant or her parent/guardian.

Kathy may combine elements from multiple photographs and make artistic adjustments to composition, background, color, lighting, and other details to create the finished artwork.

Before the portrait is completed, you will receive a digital proof showing the composition and likeness.

Nothing moves forward until you approve the portrait design.

Reasonable revisions to achieve an accurate likeness are included as part of the process.

4. Photographs & Permission

By submitting photographs, you confirm that you own the photographs or have permission from the photographer or copyright holder to use them as reference material for the creation of commissioned artwork.

This is particularly important when submitting photographs taken by professional horse-show, event, or portrait photographers.

Kathy Morley Portraits is not responsible for obtaining permission from third-party photographers or copyright holders.

Submitted photographs will not be sold or licensed to others.

5. Magazine Feature & Parent/Guardian Approval

Each selected participant will be featured in the 50 Girls. 50 Horses.  magazine with her finished painting and a short piece about her relationship with her horse.

A feature may include the participant’s: first name, age, horse’s name, finished painting, and story.

With parent or guardian permission, the participant’s barn and its city/location may also be included.  Including the barn is completely optional.

Before publication, the parent or legal guardian will receive the completed feature to review and approve, including the written story and identifying information that will appear with it.

Nothing will be published until the parent or guardian has approved the feature.

6. Artwork Copyright & Use

Kathy Morley retains the copyright to all artwork she creates.

The participant receives the physical finished portrait for personal display and enjoyment. The artwork may not be reproduced, sold as reproductions, or used commercially without written permission from Kathy Morley.

By participating in the project, the parent or legal guardian gives Kathy Morley permission to reproduce and display the finished artwork and approved magazine feature as part of the 50 Girls. 50 Horses.  project, including the magazine, Kathy Morley’s portfolio, website, social media, exhibitions, and promotional materials.

Any use of identifying information will be consistent with the parent/guardian-approved magazine feature.

7. Withdrawal & Cancellation

If you need to withdraw before work on your portrait has begun, your $495 participation fee will be refunded.

Once portrait work has begun, the participation fee becomes non-refundable because it covers the time and creative work already invested in your portrait.

If an unusual circumstance arises, please reach out. Kathy will always work with you in good faith to find a fair resolution.

If circumstances beyond Kathy Morley’s control prevent completion of a participant’s portrait or inclusion in the project, an appropriate refund or other resolution will be provided.

8. Shipping

The included 8×10 portrait and one copy of the finished magazine will be shipped at no additional charge to addresses within the contiguous United States.

Shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. territories, and international destinations may require an additional shipping charge. Any applicable shipping cost will be communicated before shipment.

Shipping charges for larger portraits or additional products may vary based on size, destination, packaging, and carrier requirements and will be communicated before purchase or shipment.

International recipients are responsible for any applicable customs duties, VAT, taxes, brokerage fees, or other import charges imposed by their country.

9. Project Schedule

Because 50 Girls. 50 Horses. involves 50 individually created custom portraits and editorial features, completion dates for individual portraits and publication of the finished magazine may vary.

Kathy will communicate anticipated timing throughout the project, but publication and delivery dates are not guaranteed unless specifically agreed to in writing.

10. Privacy

Information submitted through the application and portrait process will be used to administer the project, communicate with the participant’s parent or guardian, create the portrait, and prepare the participant’s approved magazine feature.

Personal information will not be sold to third parties.
